                                          Frouxeira Lighthouse Route
The newest light in Galicia
A fascinating route that combines history, nature and spectacular views along the parishes of Meirás and Lago. Starting from the Misael Prieto football pitch, the route takes you through dirt tracks, wood and fields, to reach Frouxeira beach, a popular spot with local surfers. The natural surroundings of dunes and changing vegetation make this walk a revitalising experience at any time of year.
As we go along, the trail leads along narrow paths that border the cantís, offering an unrivalled panorama of the ocean and a unique opportunity for fishing. One of the most exciting points on the route is the old military garrison and the commemorative cross, which reminds us of the stories and legends of the place. This area was chosen as the setting by Roman Polanski for his film "Death and the Maiden", which further emphasises its cinematographic and scenic appeal.
The route culminates at the Frouxeira lighthouse, Galicia's newest light, an impressive modernist structure that rises 75 metres above sea level. From here, the 360-degree views are truly breathtaking, taking in the coastal landscape and the chapel of Porto, perched on the rocks. This point marks the end of a route full of history, sea and countryside, perfect for nature lovers and adventurers.
